I woke this morning to find the streets and rooftops covered in snow, and my period arriving in full swing. The answer would appear to be most definitively "no", then. I think it's pretty clear that I was not, in fact, pregnant at all and the second line was simply a false positive.
I'm probably more disappointed than I should be, having only myself to blame for the building up of erroneous hopes. The lesson I take from this for future is to use the tests properly, in the prescribed time limits- and to leave the damn rubbish bin alone. I consoled myself with the smell of my daughter's hair when I picked her up from nursery, and her sweet kiss goodnight. Come what may, I think I'm still very, very lucky.
And now- a large glass of wine awaits...
Oh, darn. Hope that glass is excellent.

Balls.
I am so sorry. What with waking up this morning to the gloomy cramping of my own period, I was pinning my hopes on your having better luck.
May this be our month. Both of us. And know that tonight, I will be joining you in a big glass of something and giving thanks for the sweet-smelling heads of the two I am so fortunate to have.

I'm so sorry, my friend.
Joining you and Bugs with the wine, and hoping for wonderful things for us all in the new year.

I'm so sorry. Damned evaporation lines! They should invent a test that just evaporates itself completely after 5 minutes so you can't be hunting for ghost lines for ages! Or stick to the fancy-pants clearblue which do that pregnant/not pregnant screen.
Wishing you better luck next time. I won't tell you to lay off the tests, because I never could. In fact by the time I DID get pregnant I was so used to seeing damned lines that I didn't believe them. It wasn't until I was 3 days late and had 4 different tests all screaming positive at me within seconds that I began to think there might be something in it....

I had a couple of what I thought were evaporation lines during my first IVF cycle. Thanks to my doctor's adamant refusal to let me skip my beta DESPITE the full-on presence of my period, I learned that I had indeed been pregnant (beta was 18) -- albeit for like, what, 5 minutes? Still, I took a wee tiny bit of comfort in knowing that even a chemical pregnancy was a step in the right direction for my body.
Keep on keeping on, Mare. I'm thinking good thoughts for you.

I always hated stuff with lines. I was glad when they invented the ones with words. Sorry though - its crap when it happens.

Ah, the fun you can have with sticks.
My last stick actually turned whiter where the second line was supposed to be. I'm not kidding.

I have just started trying to get pregnant too, and as much as I tell myself not to bother getting excited and building my hopes before my period is due, I just can't help it. I have just started temping so I now have a nice chart to peer at and over-analyse, as well as boobs to test for tenderness and some random twinges to give much thought to! Not forgetting of course, the decidedly negative hpt's. It has only been 3 months, but I can quite easily see how ones head could be quite royally done in, with all the wondering, waiting, hoping etc! Good luck to you Mare, as well as everyone else having a go!

Oh, sweet lady. I'm sorry.

I'm sorry...
I'll keep my fingers crossed for next month.
BTW, sorry if this is complete assvice (and feel more than free to disregard if it is), but I know you said you never got any diagnosis except "unexplained fertility"--had your doctor given you progesterone supplements during any of the non-AR cycles you tried in the past? That turned out to be my problem: I could get pregnant on my own but couldn't carry past the first couple weeks until I used progesterone during my first trimester.
Again, if you're rolling your eyes at my sheer ignorance, apologies! And good luck again! :-)
