Oh my.

It was I, was it not, who commented on how it mystifies me that home birth is presented as the alternative that allows women to labor in peace and serenity in a familiar environment? The last, maybe, but little about my home is peaceful and serene. I know exactly the habits of the chipmunk-hyped clinger, though mine comes without that (particular) screech, i.e., has not been exposed to/adopted the mannerisms of the actual chipmunks. But other than that: yes. You have my deepest empathy for having endured those moments while in labor.

And that is why we have never watched that movie. Or the squeakquel. :)

I HATE THOSE CREATURES!!! :-)

Lut C.

Squeeky chipmunks and a clingy toddler, not exactly relaxing.
And colic wars, that doesn't sound to great either.

When I was 39 weeks pregnant I though my water had broken but was not sure. I am a scientist and was at work- realized that I could test the pH of the fluid using little paper test strips, because I knew that normal vaginal fluid has a lower pH than amniotic fluid. So I did that and Voila- it was amniotic fluid so off to the midwives I went!

I love the ending of this--and can't wait for the rest! The whole labor/birth process is SO different, isn't it, when there's an older child around. My older son--almost 4 at the time--actually ended up in the delivery suite when my younger one was born, due to lack of preparation for childcare on our part (the baby came 5 weeks early, in contrast to older son who had to be induced nearly 2 weeks late, so we were not expecting this AT ALL). So I gave birth to the sounds of Shrek on the in-room television. Not exactly my idea of a calm birth experience.
